“It only takes a few syllables—purred or growled, or shot sky-high like shrapnel—to confirm that R&B singer-songwriter E (for Emily) Woods is the real goddamn deal.”

WHATs the deal
Hailing from the St.Louis area and moving to Chicago 10 years ago, Emily (E Woods) has made her mark on the Chicago music scene through a variety of different projects. Some of her more notable performances were with soulful rock band Brother Starrace, Chicago Soul Spectacular, Young Lady, and Dead River Revival. E has performed all over the Chi in a variety of DIY spaces while also gracing larger stages such as The Metro, Lincoln Hall, Thalia Hall, and The Vic. No stage is too big or too small to capture all the energy she brings to the table.
With the premiere of her solo career as E Woods, Emily has found a sound that is uniquely her own. Her vocals are gritty and soulful combined with danceable funk/RnB influenced sonic landscapes produced by Chicago native Marcus R. & The Noire. At the core of her sound is joy, enthusiastic rhythm, and hard hitting introspective lyrics that yearn for it’s audience of listeners to step up to the plate and be better and badder every day. To date her first solo live show was at Thalia Hall for their Hall Together series where her and her band (The Lonely Boys) showed up and showed out.
